Johnny Bravo Wiki

Bunny "Mama" Bravo is Johnny Bravo's mother. She's had a lively past and often reveals a surprising hidden talent.

Bunny's an eccentric but nurturing woman who's very loving and dedicated to her son -- despite that, Bunny is generally aware of her son's low intellect (as well as his womanizing nature). This has the unfortunate result of Bunny not always treating her son and/or his problems seriously.

She's usually referred to as "Mama" by her son and either "Mama Bravo" or "Mrs. Bravo" by his friends/acquaintances.

Personality[]

Bunny is kind, outgoing, eccentric and loving, often babying Johnny (even though he's technically an adult). She is usually nice, but she will give a beating to anyone who thinks they can seriously harm her son or treat him unfairly with her around.

Bunny is a huge fan of shopping networks, knickknacks (such as collectible plates, porcelain figurines, and dolls), and a soap opera called "The Young and the Feckless", a spoof on The Young and the Restless. She is also a huge fan of certain celebrities, such as the singer Berry Vanderbolten. Bunny has a passion for gardening and some of her other hobbies include cooking (such as baking), sports (even extreme sports) and playing bingo.

Bunny's been shown to not be the greatest cook ever (although she appears to be talented at making desserts and baked goods), but Johnny's so used to his mom's cooking that he'll eat basically anything she makes. In one comic story, Johnny (much to the disgust of his nerdy friend, Carl) claims "everything Mama cooks tastes like chicken."[4]

Appearance[]

Bunny hides gray hairs by tying her light purple hair in a red handkerchief. She wears black shoes (later light blue), a purple jacket, a black shirt (later light blue) and pink pants.

After the series' was retooled, Bunny's hair color was changed to a bluish-gray to reflect her age. This is reversed in the last season.

During Johnny's infancy, Bunny had a skinnier body type and very tall, long red hair. She also wore a purple headband, small green neckerchief and a pink bead necklace. However, during previous flashbacks, she matches her present appearance.

Biography[]

During the Vietnam war, Bunny was a race car driver, as there were "no men around to burn rubber."[5] According to Bunny, she was at Altamonte and had her guitar set on fire by none other than Jimi Hendrix.[6]

Decades later, Bunny gave birth to Johnny. During his infancy, Bunny would dress him in a bunny suit. In flashbacks seen in "Freudian Dip," she once gave him a slice of baked ham and left him alone in his crib before watching TV, leading to him developing a fear of the dark (as he believed his toys were monsters). However, in "Look Who's Drooling", when Johnny is turned back into an infant, Bunny is shown feeding him actual baby food and taking him to a daycare center when she wants time to herself.

Relationships[]

Johnny Bravo[]

Bunny hopes that Johnny will find that special someone he's been looking for, even setting him up on blind dates from time to time.[7] However, in the second and third seasons, Bunny seems to have no interest in her son's love life, as his desperation to get a date usually interrupts their family time. Bunny loves her son dearly, but their relationship is often strained when she finally has some time alone to relax. Bunny also deeply misses the years when Johnny was a baby, keeping nearly everything from that time period.[8]

Bunny often tries to travel and do fun activities with Johnny to spend time with him, but he always ends up getting sidetracked by girls.

In an alternate reality where Johnny had never been born, Bunny discovered a love of international espionage, becoming a top agent under the alias of "Madame X."[9]

Little Suzy[]

Johnny, Suzy, & Bunny (Johnny B

Bunny is friends with Little Suzy, usually acting as another mother figure to her. Bunny once gave Suzy a visit in the hospital after she had gotten a tonsillectomy, bringing along Johnny dressed as a clown to cheer her up.[10] Bunny has no problem with Suzy randomly coming to visit, and she is seen attending their family movie night in "That's Entertainment!", along with various other parties.

Bunny and Suzy interact often outside of Johnny-related matters as the result of Bunny being in charge of certain groups and teams that Suzy is a part of, such as Bunny being the coach for Suzie's softball team (called "Mama's Maulers") and acting as the den mother for Suzie's scouting troop, the Buttercup Scouts.

Carl Chryniszzswics[]

Bunny is friendly to Carl and once referred to him as a "sensible young man".[11] However, she did give him the same punishment as Johnny after he installed a nuclear engine in her 1957 Kefauver Stool Pigeon car.[5] Bunny once asked Carl to pick up groceries for her in Johnny's absence and he later takes her to the carnival to cheer her up.[12]

Donny Osmond[]

Bunny once hired Donny as Johnny's nanny in "Johnny Bravo Meets Donny Osmond" and sees him as a friend. After movie night goes astray, she allows him to join in and tell folk tales with them to pass the time.

Raoul Montoya[]

Bunny once dated Raoul Montoya, before Johnny sabotaged their relationship.[13] Despite no longer being together, it appears that Bunny still likes him, as she had a romantic dream about him during Johnny's side of the story in "Rashomoron."

At the end of his debut episode, Raoul appeared to still like Bunny despite her son's antics -- it's possible that they decided to continue dating while keeping the relationship a secret from Johnny.

Trivia[]

  • It's unknown if "Bunny" is her actual name or if it's just a nickname (possibly being short for something like "Bernice").
  • Bunny was designed by Julian Chaney. For Season 2, she was redesigned by Gary Hartle, until she was given a new design in Season 4.
  • Bunny's allergic to shellfish and a plant called the shmutzweed.
  • In the closed captioning for many episodes where Bunny's name is spoken, she's incorrectly referred to as "Bonnie."
  • Bunny once turned into a "crazy cat lady" due to her urge to nurture in "Scoop Bravo".
  • According to Bunny, during Yahtzee nights with her circle of friends, they "dip into the cider and use colorful language," which is something she doesn't want Johnny to be exposed to.[1]
  • Despite sometimes referred to as "Mrs. Bravo" by people outside of her son, it's unknown if Bunny's ever been married or even who her son's father is -- Johnny's dad is never seen or mentioned at any point in the franchise. And in all the flashbacks and other mentions we get of Johnny's infancy, childhood and teen years, it would appear that Bunny had raised him as a single parent. Johnny's also (presumably) an only child, because we never see or hear anything about Bunny having any other children outside of Johnny.
  • Aside from Cartoon Network: Name That Toon claiming that Bunny's 60-years-old during the events of Seasons 2 and 3 (which might not be true), Bunny's age is never confirmed at any point in the series -- although it's generally assumed by fans that Bunny's somewhere in her 50s. And since Johnny's confirmed to be in his early-20s (which would put him at around 20 to 23-years-old), Bunny was probably already in her 30s by the time she had her son.
    • Also, since the series is all-but-explicitly stated to take place in the late-1990s (1997 to 1999)/early-2000s (2000 to 20003), Bunny (given the general consensus about her age) was probably born sometime in the 1940s.
